The Birth Story!

This is really only for my record as I have done this with both boys so feel free to just check out the pictures if you aren't interested.

We had the same plan in place as we did with the boys at 39 weeks to the day, I would go into the hospital at 6:00 am to begin the induction. We choose to induce because my body responds well to it and well we just need a plan in place with two other little ones to worry about at home. So at 5:30 on July 26th we left the house, I was actually feeling a little uncomfortable because I was had been having contractions since about 3 that morning so I was pretty sure she was going to come on the 26th no matter what. We got to the hospital on time, which was a first for us with the boys we were about 10 or 15 minutes late, I was actually pretty impressed with how well we did. We got checked in filled out paper work and then it was time to wait for Dr. Stone to get the whole thing started.

At about 7:30 or so Dr. Stone made his way to my room and we were a go. I got checked and was about 3.5 to 4 centimeters dilated. He went ahead and broke my water and got the pitocin started and he told me that I could go ahead and get my epidural whenever I wanted. I decided that the sooner the better since my babies come fast and I didn't want to miss my window. At about 8 or 8:30 the anesthesiologist came in with he good stuff and he made all my pain melt away, or at least for the moment.
Fast forward to about 10:00, my nurse Amber comes in and is going to check me and move me from one position to another. She checks me and I am about 6cm and contracting at a pretty good clip. She decides to sit me up after I had been on my side and says she will be back in about an hour to check me again. Not 10 minutes go by before I start to feel very sick and light headed as well as starting to feel every contraction on my left side all the way up to the top of my uterus, not good I tell you not good. I buzz the nurses station and my nurse is busy so another is sent to check on my. She gives me some medicine to raise my blood pressure back up it had dropped to the low 90's high 80's over like 35 or something, no wonder I was feeling bad. She also did a test by poking me with something to see where my feeling stopped and to see how the epidural was working. It turns out my right side was completely numb while my left side was not at all, hence me feeling every contraction. We tried to change positions to see if we could move the medicine without boosting it but that never really worked. About 5 minutes pass and my nurse comes back in and decides to check me and low and behold just like with Coleman I had gone from 6 to 10 in 15 minutes and I was ready to push!

At this point my nurse started prepping the room but not before she called the CRNA, leave it to me to get the only epidural that didn't have the button for the nurse to boost the meds. Thankfully the CRNA was there pretty quick, she warned me that this may not work especially with me being complete and ready to push but she would give it a try. Thankfully after about 10 minutes of waiting I was no longer feeling contractions, I was pretty numb but didn't care I felt so much better. By that point the room was ready and we were waiting on Dr. Stone, while we waited my nurse decided I needed to do a test push. I was able to push but after one push she said stop, baby was right there and she didn't not want to deliver the baby. As luck would have it I only had to wait about 5 more minutes for Dr. Stone and I couldn't really feel anything so I didn't have an overwhelming urge to push. Dr. Stone came in got ready and he really didn't believe that I was going to push the baby out so quick until I did one push for him and he was able to see the top of the head. I ended up pushing through 2 contractions and the baby was out, at that point he turned the baby so Josh and I would be the first to see that we had a little Girl!
And at 11:19 am  on July 26th, little miss McKenna joined our family. She was a great surprise and if I had it all to do over again, I still wouldn't find out. It was the coolest experience, I still can't believe we have a girl and it is a week later, I think it will take some getting use to. We love you McKenna and you just fit so perfect into our now family of Five!
